Everyday Engineering: Bump for the Holidays

It's holiday season and Everyday Engineering is here to bring you what everyone wants this year,  besides money, love, kisses, and a new smartphone. What they really want are apps to fill their phone full of goodness. And a great way to capture it all is by "bumping",  not in the traditional way, but in the nice anti-confrontational kind of way.

Bump is a great app, available for iPhones and Androids and allows you to exchange contact information, by simply "bumping" two phones together. It's technology identifies which two phones simultaneously shook and exchanges anything from pictures to social media content. You can also easily bump your business card to a friend, hottie, or that random guy on the back of the bus.

Here's a quick video to walk you through the application. For more information visit: bu.mp. That's bump with a period in between it, and "bumping" without periods could ALSO happen during this cold holiday season, if you aren't protected properly, which isn't always a bad thing. Otherwise, we'd have no need for Santa. Ho Ho Ho.

Everyday Engineering: Thanksgiving Multitasking Must Haves

It's MO-vember, so Men keep growing that mustache to raise awareness for Mens Health, and it's also time to give thanks, while you eat yourself into a coma. Stephen Seidel is going to give you a quick two minute crash course in what to bring to become the party king (or queen).

You can either be last minute lazy and gather up some things around your house, or head over to your local supermarket (Ralph's in LA), but make sure to go early. Make sure to surround yourself with loved ones, friends, or even your dog, and hopefully you can leave the 10 hour turkey cooking duties to someone else.

Regardless, be prepared to eat your face off, stash leftovers in the back of the fridge, eat again, and at least stay awake until the end of the football games to check your fantasy points. Download Slingbox for your phone too. (See video). Let's hope you're not eating jello mold, but if you are than that means you at least get to see Grandma. Here's what you need and THANK YOU for watching.

Everyone should have four quarters under the cushion of their sofa or a plethora of pennies in the piggy bank. Scrounge together a few bucks to turn your life around, because it's time for change. For example, you especially need to start saving if you're pregnant, because babies can eat! Now head on over to The 99 Cent Store or any Dollar Store, but watch this video first so you are ready to change your life with these simple innovative engineering ideas.

Everyday Engineering: Multitasking

In an age where people wants everything faster multitasking is the answer to effective time management. But is it really effective, and does it produce better results? Answers vary.

One thing is for sure, multitasking and texting are a bad match. How many times have we seen texting and walking, driving, swimming, or changing a diaper end up badly?
There are tons of productive pairings that save precious seconds in life’s ticking time torch, and Renegade Reporting's Everyday Engineering is here to bring you DIY solutions to life's little problems. Stephen Seidel brings you technology and entertainment all in one, tech-tainment at its finest. When you're in the shower waiting for Head and Shoulders to season your scalp back to the vitality of a teenager, grab a toothbrush to grind those pearly whites. Or grab yourself a razor to shave any stray hairs, and clean everything in a matter of minutes.
Sometimes men opt to use the shower to save seconds from fighting over "not putting the seat down", but this is not recommended. For regular mornings when nature calls, why not kill two birds with one stone? It’s helpful to have a dry erase board of action items to check off such as: filing toenails, tweeting your boss, whitening your teeth, or even reading about the latest celebrity to drive drunk.
Breakfast provides an opportunity for optimization, whether dumping everything in a blender for a smorgasbord shake, or choosing cereal over poached eggs. If choosing cereal, try mixing your Cinnamon Toast Crunch with Orange Juice instead of champagne on Sundays for a magical mimosa toast crunch. Mixing oatmeal and Coffee-mate creamer make a hazelnut haven for anyone in a hurry, or without milk. I dare you to try it, you might be surprised.
Many products also do the job of multitasking FOR you. A keyboard plugin turns your ipad into a typewriter, phone, and videogame all in one. All-in-one bottles of Shampoo/conditioner/bodywash and SPF/moisturizer/make-up combinations are perfect for ladies AND dudes wearing guy-liner.
There are several additional ways to cut your time in half, such as pre-planning, making lists, and organizing. More examples of time savers are: iron everything for the week at once, plan meals before shopping, cook all chicken and meats for easy reheating, pre-cut fruits and veggies into containers for grab and go. For the ultimate mobile snack, I highly suggest gogurt. How else can you quickly down yogurt without a spoon, and escape your begging dog in your kitchen?
Speaking of pets, you can save an abundance of time when walking your dog or ferret by working out too! Make sure to high step down the sidewalk, shoulder raise your dog, or even lunge your way to that dog park. Upon returning, you and Buffy will both be tired, lying on the ground, and gasping for air.
Other innovative ideas that are fun: washing your hair during a carwash, memorizing a language while sleeping via audio books, separating your grass stained whites from your regular clothes for bleaching, practicing handstands while mopping the floor, doing yoga during a roommate debate, and many more!

Everyday Engineering: DIY Crime Prevention and 'The Watch'

Everyday Engineering with Renegade Reporting, your everyday DIY solutions to life problems with host Stephen Seidel. It's technology and entertainment in one, tech-tainment at its finest.

In lieu of the Release of The Watch on July 27th, Renegade Reporting’s Everyday Engineering has agreed take part in its own Crime Stopping Spree. The Watch was originally called The Neighborhood Watch, until the Trayvon Martin shooting by a neighborhood watch member, and now highlights more of an alien slant. It features Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade (from must-see The Mighty Boosh) as suburban dads who NEED to get out of their routine. I smell another routine comedy hoping to bank on big names with a hum drum plot, but I’m sure it will Still(er) be funny.

You know what’s NOT funny? Robbery. Or theft, looting, and breaking an entering,“B n E”, according to Dane Cook. Recently my Honda Civic was broken into and everything was stolen, including my CLUB! Good thing it wasn’t fighting break-ins on my steering wheel. Granted Hondas are the top candidate in the stolen car land, and regularly appear on truTV’s Bait Car, but it made me think, “How can we protect ourselves from criminals?” Everyday Engineering is here to keep the RATs (Random Acts of Theft) at bay one prevention method at a time.

First and foremost, get on Ebay and buy some ADT stickers and put those puppies in your windows. EBAY LINK FOR STICKERS

Secondly, speaking of puppies, it’s always good to have man’s best friend at your door. And I mean LITERALLY at your door. Buy a Brand New “Wipe your paws” welcome mat and make it look tramped on by your pseudo-Rottweiler. You can also put up ‘Beware of Dog’ or 'Smile you're on Camera' signs.
Third, dancing solves all problems, especially with network executives these days: Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, America’s Best Dance Crew, and more. So turn on that clock radio you never use anymore, bust a move, and prevent a bust in by leaving it on.
Our fourth tip is for when you leave on vacation or “work trips” to Mexico. Try your best to resist posting your beer chugging competitions in Cancun on Facebook. Instead opt for sharing that library photo of you crocheting your Rottweiler’s pet dander into a sweater. Online criminals might know where you live.
Our fifth tip is to call the spirit of Mr. Rogers (or another neighbor) and ask for their help. Have them gather your piles of mail, instead of risking the loss of your favorite black saran wrapped magazine.  You could also ask them to rope off the shared porch with caution tape. No burglar wants tampered goods that a competitor has already planted their seed upon, so your home should remain unscathed.
Most theft and crime happens within 3 miles of your home. Or is that accidents? Regardless, go safe or go home, and park in your garage. The next 3 tips relate to the second home for most Angelenos, their vehicle. Make sure to always carry your garage door opener with you, as it's the entrance into your man cave and world of secrecy. Your address is most certainly in Google’s Rolodex waiting to be called upon. Next, always replace your car charger with its covering, because if left open a thief immediately knows there's a phone, ipod, GPS, or vibrating stirrer for your coffee nearby. If you have a GPS wipe away the suction circle that remains on your windshield or dash, before hiding "out of sight" in glove box. A circle meets a square, and in this case the square is the credit card you’re using to buy a replacement, after your $500 deductible is not met.

The ninth piece of advice is to wisely hide all your valuables to prevent them from being taken in the first place. Forget about going under the bed and go toward the least likely place to find something valuable. Yep, you guessed it. The bathroom! Drop those family jewels in the toilet bowl for safekeeping (or the back part where the chain breaks to make the toilet run all night). Or maybe the fridge. Or any other creative plain sight locations, such as a book or Rottweiler.

The final way to eliminate crime before it happens is to hire a homeless person to do one of four things. A. Sleep on sofa B. Guard door like security personnel C. Live in backyard in a tent (this actually happened at my neighbor’s house, very creepy!) or D. Frequently fill up trashcans to look lived in (see below). Please just make sure they have a permanent address before you hire them, or give them yours. Whichever prevention methods you choose, be sure the significant other signs off first, for only then will your life be successfully safeguarded.

MSN DV Guide: Week in Review (Andy Cohen and Bravo, Pet Pals, Kardashians, Your Brain on Tech, Memorial Day War Film Fest)

Stephen Seidel hosts the online tech meets entertainment show from @MSN DV Guide. This week it was the the final week of DV Guide, write, text, Facebook and page MSN for more. We are on an indefinite hiatus, but I am very thankful for the opportunity. Send me your emails to renegadereporting@gmail.com and I'll surely forward if need be.

Week 15 of DV Guide included Andy Cohen's 'Watch What Happens Live', and the former development executive sure does it right with live questions, and of course a bar, fully stocked. In addition, we covered the infamous pet pal pairings we've all grown to know and love, elephants and dogs, lizards and cats, you name it. Next up, was a review of Kim's booty banking machine and the renewal of another season of 'Keeping Up', we'll be sure to do our squats with Kim, so we can all keep it up. Another fun segment was about the effect of tech on your brain. This is your brain... this is your brain on tech...... sizzle, snap, crackle, pop.....any questions? Let's just say keep your phone within an arms reach, or buy a Pop phone, which has been proven to reduce radiation by over 90 percent. (See picture below).

Lastly, cue 'Taps' military music, we covered the top three best war films of all-time, for the Memorial Day celebration, and the end of the DV guide battle over the information superhighways. Our choices were Platoon, Apocalypse Now, and a third, you'll have to watch the episode for that amazing classic.  There's also the best closing to an online entertainment video journalism show you've ever seen, you might just shed a tear.

DV Guide is your one stop shop for a review of all cable-free content, as well as highlights to apps, websites and what players to use to stream all your entertainment at dvguide.msn.com. Thanks for the news, dreams, and cable-free content. It's time for summer....
